Community Education Project

Do you have an innovative idea to support gardening education in the community?

We invite all Multnomah Master Gardener Chapter members to think about innovative ideas which support our mission of bringing relevant, research-based garden education to the public and in neighborhoods throughout the metropolitan area. These projects provide opportunities to broaden our outreach to underserved communities.

Your Multnomah Chapter Board has approved the opportunity for members to apply for funds to support their innovative ideas.  Interns and Perennial MGs  who are certified and members of the Multnomah Chapter of Master Gardeners are encouraged to apply.

Here are some ideas for a Community Education Project:

Talks and Presentations
For example, presentations on topics such as sustainable gardening, composting or integrated pest management for your neighborhood association or at a local Earth Day event.

Gardening Kits
Offer gardening kits to communities in need which include vegetable seedlings or plants with simple growing instructions. One such project, the Winter Garden Grow Kit, was completed in 2020.

Workshops and Demonstrations
Have you thought about offering a demonstration or hands-on activity in your neighborhood on plant propagation, pruning, soil sampling or installing a low-flow irrigation system?

Education of Youth in the Community
Do you have ideas about supporting a field trip for children in your local school to learn about sustainable gardening or helping a neighborhood group of kids participate in the Junior Master Gardening program?
