**Weeds or Landscape Ornamentals?

Pokeweed_pic.jpg

Join us as Michelle Delepine, West Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District, highlights aggressive weeds that sometimes are confused for landscape ornamentals. These include species encountered in gardens and natural areas such as lesser celandine, pokeweed, knotweed, spurge laurel, dropping sedge, evergreen bugloss, ivy, bindweed, and thistles. She will provide pointers on both identification and management using integrated pest management (IPM) principles and techniques.

Michelle Delepine coordinates the early detection-rapid response program for the West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District, located in Portland, Oregon. She serves on the steering committee for the 4-County Cooperative Weed Management Area and chairs the Oregon Invasive Species Council Communications Committee. She co-founded the PNW-Garlic Mustard Working Group and has actively managed garlic mustard, among other target weeds, in western Multnomah County since 2011. Michelle holds an Honors B.Sc. in Natural Resources (Oregon State University – College of Forestry) and a M.Sc. in Geography (University of Victoria).
