Born in Hawaii where he lived until moving to Gresham at age 11, Jacobsen learned the importance of taking care of each other and the community from his mother and chef grandmother. Food was a way to show love. After graduating high school, he studied business and culinary arts. While working in the food industry and being a youth leader at a local church, he was inspired to start Feed The Mass after learning of the minimal nutrition and cooking education offered to the teens with whom he worked. The beginning of the pandemic resulted in the closing of the cooking classes and found Feed The Mass with only $500 in the bank. Jacobsen’s reaction was to use the skills and supplies he had to prepare free meals for people who needed them. The community responded with support, and the FED Program began, using goods donated by local farmers and vendors to feed those in need. The success of the FED Program has allowed Feed the Mass to create online cooking classes available to all.
