You can become a member of the Multnomah County Master Gardener Association at any time, however please be aware that your membership year runs for the calendar year in which you pay, from January 1st to December 31st, regardless of when a member joins or renews. A membership application or renewal received by February 15 helps the chapter to plan for the rest of the year.

Volunteer Interest

Active member participation is crucial to our success! We have a variety of volunteer activities ranging from one-time projects to on-going committee and board work. Some of the activities involve scheduled meetings and/or events, but much of it is work that can be done remotely on your own schedule. Are you interested in chairing an event or committee? Want to start off small and work on just one aspect of an event? Or maybe it’s somewhere in between. Regardless, we can find the perfect volunteer spot for you. Fundraising

Fundraising is crucial to our organization. The Incredible Edibles Sale remains our largest and most visible fundraiser. A tremendous amount of up-front planning goes into this event, and we also depend on a large contingent of volunteers the day of the sale.

Member Connect

Help build community and strengthen the bond with fellow MGs by joining the Member Services group. We welcome individuals to help with annual membership renewals, awards & recognition, volunteer retention & coordination, and creating fun member events.

Education

Education is at the core of who we are. Volunteers plan and lead workshops, community garden classes, and the monthly Speaker Series. We work with community partners to distribute gardening supplies and information to gardeners throughout diverse communities. We share relevant science-based gardening information through social media. Sign up to teach and organize community education classes or coordinate the monthly Speaker Series presentations.

Communication

Communication comes in many forms and has become even more important in the digital age. This committee is responsible for producing the eNews Grapevine newsletter and managing the MCMGA website and social media presence. We are looking for volunteers with experience in writing, photography, and social media.

Demonstration Garden

The 1-acre MCMGA Community Demonstration Garden, located near SE 57th and Duke, provides hands-on learning experiences for Master Gardener volunteers and the local community. Learn methods of sustainable gardening and land stewardship practices by designing and managing vegetable and fruit beds, pollinator habitats, and native plant beds. Volunteers help with all aspects of managing this large and diverse garden space. Learn from some of the most experienced Master Gardeners in Multnomah County. Help harvest food donated to local food pantries and develop new community partnerships that can benefit from this learning garden.
