Why are birds important to us? What do birds need? Bonnie Shoffner, Metro’s Restoration Volunteer Coordinator and wildlife rehabilitator, will discuss what you can do to help native birds in different habitat types.

Explore ways you can attract and help birds in your landscape. Bonnie will share tips and methods of landscape care that can support having birds in your garden or yard. You’ll find out how the things that are good for birds will also benefit other species. Plus, find out which birds you are most likely to see in your landscape.

Bonnie Shoffner has worked with volunteers at Metro parks and natural areas doing habitat restoration for eight years with a focus on local Willamette Valley native species for prairies, wetland, and forest habitat. She has been a wildlife rehabilitator for 21 years including her current work at Portland Audubon’s Wildlife Care Center and previous work with primates in Nigeria; birds, wild cats, sloths, and primates in Costa Rica; and the endangered pygmy rabbit locally.

Special note:  Welcome Potluck for 2016 Master Gardeners Interns proceeds Bonnie's presentation.  The potluck begins at 6:00pm.  Interns bring your appetite, empty plate and utensils (to cut down on waste).  Veterans bring a potluck dish that serves 12 (including ingredient list on 3 x 5" card) at 5:30pm (also bring an empty plate and utensils).  Guests welcome!
