Bill Thorness is a writer and gardener who’s been doing both in Seattle since the mid-1980s. He is the author of Cool Season Gardener: Extend the Harvest, Plan Ahead, and Grow Vegetables Year Round (Skipstone, 2013) and Edible Heirlooms: Heritage Vegetables for the Maritime Garden (Skipstone, 2009), both of which will be available for sale after his talk.

Bill has also written two bicycling guidebooks and a business profile, and writes articles for many regional publications, including Edible Portland and In Good Tilth locally. As an editor, he has helped usher many titles into print, including the Maritime Northwest Garden Guide and Real Gardens Grow Natives. He is a Master Gardener in King County (Seattle) and a member of the Northwest Independent Editors Guild and the Society of Professional Journalists.
