What's Wrong with My Plant? (And How do I Fix it?)

  • Taborspace 5441 Southeast Belmont Street Portland, OR, 97215 United States (map)

Every gardener knows that, despite our best efforts, eventually something will go wrong in the garden. The trick is, first, to accurately diagnose the problem and, second, to find a safe solution that protects the gardener as well as the garden.  An accurate diagnosis is important. A gardener needs to know whether he or she is dealing with spider mites or aphids, powdery mildew or bacterial blight, insufficient water or root rot. Knowing what kind of pest, disease, or disorder is affecting the garden is important to find a safe and effective solution.

Join us as David Deardorff and Kathryn Wadsworth illustrate various kinds of problems that arise in every garden. During their discussion of many plant problems, they will describe how you can differentiate a fungal disease from a bacterial one, how to distinguish root weevil damage from grasshoppers, and how to tell nitrogen deficiency from iron deficiency.

David Deardorff and Kathryn Wadsworth are the authors of four Timber Press books on plant diagnosis and organic solutions, including their award-winning best seller What’s Wrong With My Plant? (And How Do I Fix It?). David and Kathryn are authors and photographers, who travel extensively to hold popular workshops and lectures across the country. David’s PhD in botany and years of experience as a plant pathologist informs their shared expertise; and Kathryn’s skill as an author and naturalist illuminates the connection between gardens and nature. They have nurtured plants in their own nurseries and gardens in the desert southwest, the Pacific Northwest, and Hawaii, and can be found creating bountiful polyculture gardens in Port Townsend, WA.
